Several Ways To Earn Money Reviewing Books Online – You Like Extra Money, Right?

3 Legit Websites That Will Pay Qualified Individuals To Review Books Online!Earn Money Reviewing Books Online

As an opportunity to generate income for yourself online, in this article I will discuss ways for a qualified person to earn money reviewing books online that have been previously published by authors.

Please at this time understand that I will be completely upfront with you.  If you are sincerely interested in pursuing this venture and, (required in two of the sites) you are qualified professionally in the area of writing, still you will not become rich with this opportunity.

I’m not going to sit here and lie to you making the outrageous statement that you will earn 5 figures per month, (at least $10,000/month) as an individual who writes professional reviews of published books.

Instead, look at this opportunity as a way to make extra money or supplement your regular income.  Frankly with the way the world is today with prices of most needed things, (food, clothes, mortgages, rent, bills, etc) continuing to rise who does not ever need more money in their pockets or bank accounts?

Below I present 3 legit websites that are currently looking to hire people acting as freelancers to review books.  These sites include recently published works in dozens of different genres.

The only issue is that with two of the sites to indicate that you do have a background in writing, it would be required that you submit a resume plus writing samples of previously written articles composed by you, (and in one case professional references submitted by you a well); all done to indicate that you’re just not some individual who would only treat this job simply as some sort of joke.  It’s not!

**** If for some reason this potential gig as a book reviewer either does not appeal to you, or you don’t have the qualifications or background in professional writing yet you’re still looking for a way to potentially make money online; as an alternative option I now also mention what it my top recommendation that is with a training and educational program called Wealthy Affiliate. ****

Review book job opportunity #1 – Kirkus:

The way that the Kirkus opportunity works, an interested individual must contact this program’s editor, David Rapp and submit both a resume and at least 2 professional writing samples to indicate his/her background and education having to do with writing.

At this present time, this company is looking for people who can read published works in the languages of either English or Spanish followed by writing appropriate reviews in those two languages.

If approved as a freelancer working for Kirkus, an individual would be assigned a book to read in many genres.  The books would be in either digital, hardcover or paperback formats.  The individual would then have 2 weeks to both complete reading the assigned book followed by immediately submitting at least a 350 word review which provides an accurate assessment of that book. Earn Money Reviewing Books Online

The person, with the review approved, would be given $50.  The more it could be assessed, (through the passage of time) that as a freelancer you would have proved that your reviews are well-written and of value to the book’s author, you would also eventually have the opportunity to receive more than 1 book at a time.

Yes, if you are given 3 or 4 books to read at a time, you still would be required to complete a review of each by the two-week deadline.  If approved by this program’s editors you as a freelancer would receive $50 for each completed review.

Take this seriously, and you could be eventually assigned having the responsibility to read 5 or 6 + books at one time if that is your thing.  Of course the time limit will remain, the need to complete each within two weeks.

However with your willingness to put in the required effort to both read and along with that the ability to write a knowledgeable review of each book, you could potentially start to earn quite a bit of extra cash for yourself in this venture being offered at Kirkus.

The editor’s contact info is mentioned on the site as sending an email to start the application process as being:

Review book job opportunity #2 – Online Book Club:

The Online Book Club as I glanced through their very thin website is probably not noteworthy as Kirkus, or the one to be reviewed below in this article.  In fact, it appears that you do not even have to have a professional writing background in order for you to be accepted as a freelance member at this site.

The pay range is also not as invariably high compared to Kirkus. Depending on the depth and scope of a book that would be assigned to a freelancer, he/she would make anywhere between $5 on up to $60 after submitting a 400 word minimum review to be approved by this company’s editors.

This job, more than Kirkus above would appear strictly to be looked at as an “extra cash” type of venture. The enrollment process appears to be quite simple, found again on the homepage. As is the case with Kirkus above, it would be absolutely free to become a freelance member.

Review book job opportunity #3 – The US Review of Books: Earn Money Reviewing Books Online

US Review of Books, also judged by the subheading found at the program’s homepage, “Professional Reviews For The People” definitely has the same standards in the application followed by hiring process as is the case above with Kirkus.

The candidate, in addition to joining this program’s forum, would also need to provide to the editor his/her resume, sample work of professional writing, and at least 2 professional references as part of the application.

This company has books available to be reviewed in over 75 different genres!

After being approved to be a freelance book reviewer in this program, and assigned book(s) to be reviewed, it is expected that the length of the review be between 300 on up to 500 words.

Unlike what is offered at Kirkus, the reviewer would be given a full byline plus links to promote him/herself on the company’s page so that other book authors would be made aware professionally of his/her efforts as a freelancer.

Some noted reviewers, many with collegiate educational backgrounds, (Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees in different disciplines that include writing) can be found available on the site by clicking here.

The company is also quite transparent in providing info to interested participants indicating what would be expected as meeting the category of submitting a suitable review of a book.  Here is a page which lists past reviews of books that all met this company’s qualifications of being exceptionally written by freelancers.

The only thing that I could not find, (kind of important if you think about it) and despite the site having a very lengthy FAQ page, was, unfortunately the lack of information about how much money, (as in $ bills) would be paid to a freelancer who had his/her review approved of by the site’s editors.Earn Money Reviewing Books Online

Why this info is missing on the site, somewhat of a turnoff at least to me, I found to be puzzling.   Should anyone reading this article actually be interested in pursing this opportunity with US Review Of Books, make sure that you ask in your initial correspondence with this company how much money you would be paid for each review of a book written by you after it would get approved.

I could not help but notice that authors who submit their books for review have to pay a fee to the company to receive this benefit.  That money coming in must, at least, partially be doled out to the freelancers who write the reviews, am I right?

Plus, I highly doubt you as a freelancer working for this company would be willing to spend your considerable time invested in both reading the book followed by writing a review, all completed by with you requesting absolutely no money in return!  Unless done for charity, many jobs are based on the employee/freelancer getting paid for his/her efforts.

The way to contact this company to then submit an application is listed as the following.  Simply email along with the proper documents attached, (resume, professional writing sample, 2 professional references) to:

You can also write to this company at the following P.O. address:

One More Thing. . .

The opportunity to be a freelance book reviewer would represent a legit way for some, (although unfortunately not all) individuals to earn money online.  For those who would either not qualify for this job or else not have any interest period but who still want to create income online please don’t go away just yet.

As an alternative option, I again present a legit program that would allow you to make money online as it is with a company called Wealthy Affiliate.

This company, first created back in 2005, has had over a million people worldwide who at one time or another all have been members of this organization.Earn Money Reviewing Books Online

Wealthy Affiliate provides the best level of educational training, tools and community support that would allow a serious individual to achieve whatever would be his/her personal goals in creating income online.

Wealthy Affiliate most definitely is NOT a get-rich quick scheme, so no, you will not have earned $20,000 some 10 days from now should you decide to join this organization.

Take advantage of what this opportunity can do for you, especially if you’re seeking extra income for you and your family.

  1. The thing with writing book reviews is the time factor, really. The time it takes to write a good review, but even more importantly the time it takes to read the book to begin with.

But still, it’s interesting to know that you can actually get paid to write book reviews, because I didn’t realise there was any way of receiving money, other than to personally charge individual authors for the process. The pay rate is not bad.

  2. Hi Darren.  Thank you for both reading this article and also for sharing your thoughts.  I agree with your sentiments.  Reading and then writing a review of a book that you had been assigned to read would of course involve your willingness to invest time into these tasks.  Unfortunately, not everyone would have the time to participate in this type of venture, especially if they wanted to get paid even a fair amount of money in return.

Furthermore, as a review would be analyzed by professionals associated with the book site, writing comments in a haphazard manner would never allow it to be approved – and with that the individual who wrote the review would not get paid.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts on the subject matter of this article Darren as they are very much appreciated by me, sir!

  3. Hey, Jeff!

I’ve tried writing book reviews numerous times in the past, but found it difficult to put the content into my own words and thoughts. It almost felt like I was robotic lol.

But I guess I just need a little more practice.

However, it’s great that places do exist for paying us to review books (even if the income isn’t life-changing). But it’s a good way to top up your current income, as you say.

As an added bonus, I think it also gets people reading more and getting paid for what they enjoy doing.

But I would still much prefer to earn a “full-time” income, and after looking into Wealthy Affiliate, I think it’s the best option because you can create a successful online business that belongs to YOU. 🙂

  4. Hi Neil!  Thank you so very much for both taking the time to read this article and also for sharing your great and insightful thoughts.  I do agree that writing reviews on books can be challenging and especially if the individual just has difficulty in composing his/her thoughts, articulating them in legible fashion on paper, (or should I say on a monitor when using a computer/Smart phone).

I would assume that the individual had to thoroughly understand the book that had been read, and in fact got something tangible out of reading it.  Otherwise, that person would be unable to put forth his/her thoughts during the process of writing a well-written review.

I also agree with you that what Wealthy Affiliate has to offer for an individual who has a high level of motivation to learn how to create income for him/herself is unmatched by any other like program.

Thank you again Neil as I do so appreciate your thoughts, sir!

  5. Hey Jeff, Really cool review once again. I really enjoyed reading it. I think I pretty much agree with Darren. I think getting paid for book reviews is only an option when you have read the book already. because of time. plus writing 500 words in a good way takes time too and $5 isn’t that much. I would really recommend your recommendation. Wealthy Affiliates. I’m a member myself and I can guarantee you that IF you put in the WORK you will be able to make a lot of money.

  6. Hi Aaron.  Thank you for again reading one of my articles and sharing your thoughts.  Writing reviews for books is not for everyone and certainly it will never get you rich.  I also agree that getting involved with Wealthy Affiliate potentially could bring about great things financially for an individual.  However, it would require a fair amount of work and effort put in by that person in order for him/her to grow an online business.  It won’t happen by magic!
